Yen
A couple of weeks ago, NCS speculated that it wouldn't be prudent
for our company to hedge our currency exposure by buying contracts on the forex to limit
the rise of the yen against import purchases of stock from Japan. We figured that the
Playstation 2 wasn't on the horizon and there wasn't much coming out in the way of imports
for the September - October period. However, we never took into account the possibility
that the yen would continue to rise against the dollar in such broad strokes. As such, we
are exposed to a crumbling dollar and hampered by a mighty yen. NCS will move to hedge our
risk this week to prevent further damage but it appears Y104 per $ may be a safe bet for
the short term as Japan moves out of recession and back into growth mode. The unthinkable
Y96 per $ would be disastrous for import/export companies in Japan and the USA but we
remain open to that possibility. |
