Love it or leave it, the King's Field series enjoys it's camp of
ardent supporters as well as venal detractors. Positive sentiment
exults the suspense in the game, the first person perspective in
an adventure setting, and the realistic trudging speed as you make
your way across a dank dungeon area in search of sword fodder.
Weigh yourself down with big armor, heft a heavy sword and
assorted trinkets and your movements will obey laws of nature and
slow your speed. Haters may cite the measured pace of the game as
being too realistic. Apparently, fantasy should run fast...
Taking place in a forested area as well as inside the
confines of an underground cavern, King's Field 4 exudes a
dream-like quality whether you're traversing mottled grounds or
viewing stone creatures hanging from forlorn walls. Skeletal
warriors rising from pockets of mist and shambling ogres in dirty
loincloths add to the surreal nature of it all. The use of mighty
spells, which weave through the air, evaporating foes to dust
complete the dreamy illusion. Beautiful to behold and certain to
captivate fans of the King's Field style of adventuring.
Recommended.
