Launch Capsule |

Thanks to
everyone who sent in their PS2 launch stories throughout Thursday. One overriding theme,
at least for buyers outside of the metropolitan New York area, was that early birds got
the console. Whether they waited in queues outside of stores after midnight on Wednesday,
or before stores opened during godly business on Thursday, they were able to buy a PS2. In
the densely populated confines of New York City, things were different and many were
unable to purchase one even after waiting on line at night. At least, things remained calm
and civil unrest was not stoked. The rowdies were probably at the baseball game. One local
customer drove around for seven hours hoping to score but gave up eventually as dawn broke
and work beckoned.
When the PS2 launched in Japan, media reports recounted tales of PS2 theft.
Sad stories emerged of young children being robbed of their newly purchased units. We have
only heard of one such story here when an adult was pushed down in the parking lot of a
Target store and robbed of his PS2 unit.
The launch has come and gone and the birthing pains should be over. Well,
maybe a spasm or two in the next couple of weeks if supplies remain spotty and demand
lofty. |
Enjoy your weekend. |
