Take apart the GC
console.... remove the heatsink which is attached by gray, gooey heat
dissipating polymer to the chips below to reveal the pcb location shown.
Locate the resistor block at R39 and attach two wires to the center
solder point pair at R6. Wield your iron deftly or you'll melt and
dislodge the adjacent resistors on the block. |

Connect
the wires to a switch as shown below. If using a SPDT switch, simply
connect the wires to the available terminals and you're done. If using a
DPDT like we are, follow the wiring conventions shown. That's it. Done.
NCS takes no responsibility if you toast your GC when doing this mod, but
given the relative simplicity, we doubt many GCs will be rendered into
boxy doorstops. |

NCS is now accepting
Gamecube consoles for JPN/USA territory modification. The procedure,
originally given out by a Hong Kong based hack and originally thought to
be fake, is fairly simple to perform. All that is required is some solder,
a soldering iron, wire, an SPDT toggle switch, and a modicum of skill. In
our photos, we show a DPDT toggle switch but this is not required and a
single-pole switch will do. NCS has only tested this modification with the
USA versions of Super Monkey Ball and Rogue Leader. Both run fine and
we're inclined to believe that all other USA Gamecube games will load as
well. When toggling from JPN to USA mode, the menus appear in English and
games boot directly. If you're interested in performing the mod by yourself, you'll need a 4.5mm gamebit to remove the screws that hold the outer shell of the GC together. While NCS won't post a step-by-step primer on how to do the mod due to the simplicity of the work (other sites will probably post step by step instructions soon), we are posting two largish photos of the relevant points to solder as well as the method of wiring the switch by way of orange + white color coded wires. Due to expected shortages of the USA Gamecube console next week, NCS will also offer universal GC consoles (JPN units with the mod) at US$275. Customers who wish to have NCS perform the mod may contact us for more information. NCS will install the mod and mount the switch on the rear of the GC console, directly below the carrying handle, on the left. Our service charge for the mod stands at US$38, which includes return shipping with UPS Ground. You must pay for shipping the GC to us, and we generally recommend sending units with USPS Priority Mail. |
