The Dreamcast supply situation appears to be improving by the day. NCS is expecting better quantities of the console next week along with prices that are more in line with reality. Sega is ramping up production of the DC this week and shipments will begin to hit the market in earnest by the middle of December. NCS will also begin importing the Dreamcast S-Video cable and RGB convertor next week as prices for these accessories subside and return to earth.
Unconventional DC FYI
What does the DC boot-up screen look like?
An orange ball bounces from the left of the screen and moves right. With each bounce, a letter of the D-R-E-A-M-C-A-S-T name is spelled out.
The Saturn had a roving spaceship in it's music playing screen, what does the DC have?
The lower portion of the DC music screen looks like a slow, foaming eruption of thick smoke. A sky of clouds also moves nigh imperceptibly in the background as your tunes are playing. All the while, a big CD-Rom spins in the foreground as you listen to Alanis' thanks or Beethoven's fifth.
Is the fan in the DC loud?
No, it cannot be heard by human ears. In other words, it's in constant whisper mode and will not disturb the audio from your DC games.
Do you like it?
Yes, the DC is a well designed unit and has incredible potential. It should have a lively and world beating run as it lives out it's life in the console market. The compact size of the console will surprise most people when they first see it. We only hate the tulip-mania that accompanied the debut.
Neo-Geo Pocket Baseball Stars is now in stock at US$39. Pre-orders will ship today.
NCS restocked the NCD Samurai collection of games and Samurai 3 for the Neo today
Samurai Spirits NCD US$29
Samurai Spirits 2 NCD US$29
Samurai Spirits 3 NCD US$35
Samurai Spirits 3 NEO GEO US$68

New orders are welcome

NCS has repaired our first Dreamcast console. The DC GD-Rom was the sole culprit and the symptoms were as follows:
Console will not recognize a DC game or music disc. Drive activity is normal at boot-up but spins down and halts after an eighth of a minute. Eerily similar to what a Playstation does when the drive needs a fix.
CD lens scans the boot track of disc normally but appears to either reject the disc or simply fail after performing it's initial routine.
The fix is fairly simple though access to certain parts of the GD component is limited. Since NCS is only learning about the internals of the machine at this stage, we will not repair DC consoles unless they come from our company. As we begin to supply more resellers, we will divulge what we're learning about the unit so that you can repair DCs at your own store. Hopefully, the GD unit will not become as big a problem as the Playstation CD-Rom. We have yet to hear about too many problems in Asia with the DC so the glitches with the drive unit may be an isolated case. However, it's still early in the DC lifeline so we'll see what happens in the next couple of days as more units are brought home and powered up.
Five new Dreamcast titles have been tentatively scheduled for December 19: Evolution, Incoming, Seventh Cross, Sonic Adventure and Tetris 4D are all expected to close out the month of December. There are no further DC releases until January 12 when Blue Stinger, Sengoku, and Sega Rally 2 join the DC brigade.
A shipment of new import magazines is expected tomorrow. The premiere issues of Dreamcast Fan and Dreamcast Magazine are expected next week. NCS will bring these periodicals into the country with air freight. Two other DC magazines, Dengeki Dreamcast and Dream Walker will be shipped in by sea.
NCS did not want to neglect the Candy Toys this week but with the chaos surrounding the Dreamcast earlier in the week, Pokemon stickers and Hello Kitty paraphenalia were simply not at the forefront. Never fear however, Candy Toys will make their triumphant return next week.
