We take a look at the XRGB-1 upscan convertor today. An upscan is a high end video 'mixer' that will take your video output from say, a laserdisc player or a Playstation and display it on a VGA/SVGA or multi-sync monitor. The results are always stunning - pictures are crisp and bright, with no character distortion or color bleeding. The jump in picture quality is pronounced and an example is in order. When one uses S-Video output instead of RCA video output, the screen picture quality is pretty easy to see. The XRGB-1 improves the picture quality over S-Video by the same magnitude. All this comes at a price however. The XRGB-1 retails at US$215. |
| Two new USA titles are available today: N64 WCW vs NWO is $60 while SONYPS Beast Wars is $39. It appears that many popular N64 titles are now sold out, to distributors at least, until next year. For example, it is impossible to re-order Extreme-G and Quarterback Club '98. This is the same case for today's WCW vs NWO as there is no re-order date until next year. Not that anyone will miss the game too dearly since national chains should have ample quantities for the inevitable holiday rush. | A new contact page is now up. The last one was pretty horrendous but it is gone now. We will be revamping the entire NCS homepage in the next couple of months to make navigation easier. We also need a search engine on here to root out all of the journal entries that we put up. Perhaps a journal index would be a good idea also. Finally, an on-line ordering system (shopping cart?) is being considered. As always, suggestions are welcome for any improvements that we can implement for you. |
| We have figured out a new way of wiring certain Saturn consoles with a switch so that no toggling is required. The only Saturn pcboards that this method will work with are the original production boards from '94 and the more recent systems with jumpers on both sides of the pcboard. After testing the new method on roughly 6 Saturn consoles, we can emphatically say that it works well and is very convenient when playing a mix of games. The new method may be made transparent to the user by installing the switch inside the Saturn console. So, a Japanese or American disc may be played directly without any toggling. NCS recommends the installation of a switch for playing imports and domestic games as opposed to using a convertor cartridge. A switch frees up your cartridge port and requires no maintenance. The switch is also part of the Saturn console so there is no convertor to lose. Modification requests may be sent to NCS via e-mail at ncs@escape.com. | A shipment of PC-FX systems arrived today with our freight cargo forwarder. We will consider our new special offer for the console during the course of the day and post it in tomorrow's journal. We may have to think up a few special offers since we want to keep things fair and give our customers a range of options to choose from. As mentioned before, if you purchased a PC-FX system from NCS in the past two months, you will have the new options and offers open to you. |
| As our holiday purchasing orders get into gear, we have confirmed a special offer for the Neo-Geo cartridge system. We have sourced 20 new system sets that should arrive next week. The offer: Japanese Neo-Geo cartridge system with 2 old style joysticks that everyone seems to love and your choice of either Fatal Fury Special or Aero Fighters 2 cartridge. Our tentative price for this set is US$225 and pre-orders will be taken until our expected quantity of 20 pcs runs out. | |
