Dating sims will probably never make their way to the States. Perhaps the publishing community here would rather release another Tomb Raider clone than a game where you attempt to go out with a girl. I would agree with them since the mass market appeal of such a game would probably be small. Acceptance would be difficult to come by as well since I would not know how to convince large buyers such as Toys R' Us that a dating sim is likely the next 'Tamagotchi'. In any case, dating goes on in Japan and we have the latest for the Saturn this week. |

What is a dating sim, some may ask. Well, it's quite simple. You meet a girl and she asks you a series of questions, much like a real girl would (if she was interested). Her feelings and her reaction towards you will be based on the quality of your answers which you choose from a short list of responses. If you're charming enough, she'll agree to go out on a date with you. On the date, you'll have to be on your best behaviour since she's still getting to know you and letting your personal demons out on the first date is usually bad. |

| Some guys just can't help themselves however and ruin the tentative relationship by saying the wrong thing or by acting like a real jerk. If you're one of those guys, you'll be the hapless receipient of a female version of Ryu's dragon punch (or worse). In games such as Refrain Love, the lesson would be to tread carefully and treat the girls in the game like the delicate flowers that they are. Thank you. |  |
