| Five
schools erupt in a frenzy of fisticuffs with Pacific High School, Taiyou Gakuen, Gedou
Koukou, Gorin Koukou, and Seishin Jogakuin joining the scholastic fray. Gorin Koukou is a
sports minded school and it's students proudly utilize their athletic abilities and
paraphenalia in battle against rivals. Serve and volley is a move that you won't see in
any other fighting game. The other schools have their own themes including thuggish
brawling style and musical talent. The teachers from the original Rival Schools return
with Hideo Shimazu and Kyoko Minazuki making up the Justice School. All pre-orders for this game were shipped on Wednesday. New orders are
welcome today. |

The famous
Mario gang returns once again to hop step around in a board game format, triggering
mini-games on certain squares and engaging the player in fun and frivolity. Hudson boasts
another 70 simple yet addictive games that shine with polished presentation. The game
themes are what you would probably find on those Watch 'n Play handhelds or in the public
domain scene but nevermind that. Gaming scenarios range from falling blocks puzzles, smash
button racing, eagle-eye shooting, and games of chance. The variety of the interactions
promise lots to discover and holds interest with those who are easily jaded by a single
theme or premise.
Perfect for a party, four players get a chance to join in the games.
Bomberman still reigns as the ultimate party game since everyone gets to play at once but
Mario Party is a refreshing change of pace. |

Wielding a
baton, the conductor weaves to and fro to guide his orchestra to triumphant crescendo and
lilting melody. Like an aural artisan, motion and flourish are utilized in crafting a
masterly capriccio.
Many things have been simulated in the gaming world and Maestromusic takes
orchestral manuevers and digitizes it all down into a CD-Rom, complete with conductor's
baton. The MM Merry Christmas game is an append disc for the original game and features
cheery holiday songs and graphics. Conduct songs such as Jingle Bells, Joy to the World,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and other yuletide classics. |

The legend
returns with guns blazing. The GDP of entire European countries may dip when this game
ships on the continent. The visual presentation remains great and the detail is bumped up
a notch with improved realism in player motion, animation, and facial expressions. Sure,
many of the players still look like stone-faced zombies as they run around with naked
ambition but they'll also cheer at opportune moments and emote. The crowds are also more
animated with individual movement, fancy lighting, and super detail. Look into the crowds
and it's a weaving mosaic, not a piece of static wallpaper with spot motion. The sidelines
are also great, with coaches egging players on and the entire show is fraught with motion.
EA rules this soccer scene and each successive Fifa only improves upon the
latter and solidifies it's reputation for great things. Highly impressive and necessary
for soccer maniacs to get their fix. |

| PS2 Kurikuri Mix |

Cute
animals can either succeed in our business or fail miserably. Some champions of yesteryear
who endured the proving grounds and went on to establish a bastion include Sonic the
Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, and Yoshi, with the help of a rotund plumber. Some
failures that come to light are Bubsy and Gex, who never caught on although they did enjoy
sequels.
From Software takes a break from solemn dungeon exploration and goes
whimsical. Two rabbits wrapped in pastel colored fur are the heroes in Kurikrui Mix, which
imparts little meaning in any language. One rabbit, named Kuri carries a flowerpot
(complete with living plant) on the top of his head while Cream, the pink rabbit, is
always adorned with an umbrella. Together, they're a couple of hares that race across the
landscape in a 3-D action-puzzle game. Each level contains a time limit in which you must
reach or accomplish your goal. |

A certain
sense of power is bestowed when you take the yoke of a F-14 Tomcat, F/A-18 Hornet or an
F-15 Eagle. In the case of the Hornet, air to air missles are at your disposal to strike
down enemy birds while Maverick air to ground missles blow out land targets. Just click on
the triggers. Roaring into the sunset, a jetfighter in motion does wonders for military
recruiting stations as potential top guns opt for the service.
As a new recruit in an international air force, your job as a jetfighter
pilot is to hustle to global to hot spots and freshly brewed theatres. Missions inevitably
require dog fighting against enemy squadrons or wreaking havoc on ground-based
installations that need to be taken out. Accompanied by a group of wingmen, the aerial
muscle on your team should suffice to accomplish any task. The game touts 32 missions that
span the globe, which is 27 more than we got with Side Winder 2 on the PS from the spring
of 1999. |

| PS2 Toudai Shogi |
Scans |
Toudai is
an abbreviated word for Tokyo University so this new PS2 game translates to Tokyo U.
Shogi. Shogi itself can be translated as "General's Game". Shogi is a popular
board game in Japan though it is relatively unknown in Western culture. Shogi clubs exist
in North America and Europe but it is Greek to masses.
The gist is this: Two players sit opposite each other, peering down upon a
wooden battlefield which measures 9 x 9. Twenty pieces make up the court for each side,
including generals, knights, bishops, and the cannon fodder pawns. Similar to Western
chess, the goal is to capture the king and neutralize your opponent. Unlike chess, rival
forces who are captured are not removed from the board but rather reinforce the conquering
side to enjoin the battle later in the game. Another tactical tangent is the ability for
venturing pawns and other pieces for promotion. A lowly pawn can transform into a golden
general should it reach the opposing side. Serious tactical fun on a virtual table. |
