Cabal
was the first game to use the style that we see in Charge 'n Blast. Along
the bottom of the screen, your on-screen hero dodges left and right while shooting at all
manner of adversaries. They'll return fire, lob incendiaries and it's an all around
firefight.
A meteorite impacts and it's otherworldly influence mutates normal earth
creatures into hulking beasts. As a member of a special troupe of armored soldiers, you
jump into battle and blast back the menace. Normal shots are sufficient to strafe
a line of monsters but when big bruisers appear, you'll have to charge up your
weapon to blow the big 'uns away. |

The Eagle Shooting Heroes |

In China,
martial arts novels and comic books are a dime a dozen. Some luminaries break away from
the crowd and gain massive awareness among the general populace. Jin Yong's Dong
Cheng Xe Jiu which translates to Eagle Shooting Heroes
is one of the best known stories in China and movies, television shows, comics have been
made based on the novel.
Players travel through the world of 11th century China in an adventure of
kung-fu fighting and human drama. As you beat foes, you'll gain in experience and your
kung-fu will become stronger. Battles are fought in a style similar to any other 3-D
fighting games but within the scope of the encompassing adventure. |

| PS2 Greatest Striker |
Scans |
The guy who
bellows "GOAL" in excessively long and drawn out fashion on soccer television
would probably rule this game. That is, if he could also shout it out in Japanese. Taito's
latest on the PS2 prides itself with the ability to play a full game of team soccer with
nothing but your voice. Vocally command your best striker to smack the ball to the net and
he'll try to accomodate your request. Whether his kick is successful or not, is of course
open to how good the defending goalie blocks the shot.
Lacking the necessary Japanese language skills will leave your team fumbling
on the field but those with a modicum of Japanese loquacity should do fine. For the really
adventurous, just grab the old Dual Shock 2 and kick it old school style. The game works
like that too. The refinement of Fifa or Winning Eleven won't be found here but Tatio's
skill is in the arcade arena and this game plays to that tune perfectly. |
