will honor pre-orders for YSG Vol. 1 at the original price of US$53 but
new orders are priced at US$60. Shipping costs for this 2 lb hardcover book
were much higher than we expected, since we initially only expected a single
jewel case with flimsy retrospective pamphlet.
Upon opening the book, a Dreamcast compatible game CD is mounted
on the inner cover containing classic Sega games Hang On, Space
Harrier, Outrun, Afterburner II, and Power Drift.
While the games are certainly retro chic, it's whats in the 128 pages that held
our interest. Although the text is entirely in Japanese, we're treated to
vintage photos of the original arcade games in their stylized glory. Hang On's
"cabinet" plops a monitor on top of a motorbike replica which the
rider sits upon, quarter eater on the side. Promotional materials and sketches
for the Hang On prototype are also shown. Each subsequent chapter takes us
through the design concept, cabinet photos, and sketches for the other four
games. A final chapter in the book updates us on Suzuki-san's recent work and
also recaps his creations in a gameography. Fans, must nab...
