One of the best ways for an arcade manufacturer to show off its new hardware is by creating a racing game. Sega showed off with Daytona USA, Nintendo did it with Cruisin' USA and Namco presented the world with Ridge Racer. SNK's Round Trip RV isn't exactly a household name yet but a first look at this new racing game shows that it certainly has the graphical quality to bump the realism meter up another notch. The premise of this racing game has you on the highways and thruways of different world locales in your recreational vehicle (hence the RV in the title) as you race against time to reach the next stage. Along the way, you'll revel in the photo-realistic scenery and beautifully rendered landscapes and varied atmospheric conditions. | |

| Here we have our RV moving across a highway as the mesas of the American Midwest play backdrop. However note the Japanese spin on the routes; our driver is on the left side of the road while oncoming traffic is on the right side of the highway. This will probably be changed in the American release of RV though I think it would be an interesting challenge to drive in a Japanese highway. Since this is a video game and you're taking a virtual trip, you can drive on the right lane if you wish and cause havoc of Crusin' USA proportions. There will be no ramifications and no hikes in your insurance premium. Round Trip RV is the next Neo-Geo 64 game after Samurai Spirits 64 and we expect to see the final arcade version of this game sometime in September. | ![]() |
