The Parodius series of shooters have always been fan favorites. Its bizarre mix of strange player characters, motley enemies and odd bosses made it a classic amongst shooter fans. Bosses in shooters are usually meant to intimidate the player; it is not often when an end-level boss makes you chuckle. Sexy Parodius continues the tradition of its predecessors with solid shooter action, wacky levels and more bosses that will evoke laughter. Many of the player characters return, from the Vic Viper to the 'pig with the halo'. Each character has its own firing pattern and special power ups which sometimes has something to do with the nature of the character. The Vic Viper hails from the Gradius series and it's arsenal includes guided missles and lasers which are in line with modern, spacefaring airships. The pig with the halo can fire little fat missles and of course, the green crescent shot - all weaponry that is natural with this particular farmyard animal. Sexy Parodius is named so because many of the levels feature sexy themes...in a comedic sort of way. You will encounter girls in pink bath tubs, tittilating billboards and other sexy images, as you blast your way through waves of conventional and not so conventional enemies. Slinky blonde anime girls in bikini-wear will make cameos in many of the levels which add to the 'sexy' theme of this game. Looking beyond all the sexiness however, Sexy P is another fun and funny shooter from Konami that should do very well in the States.

Parodius fans can look for another shooter that is subtitled 'Forever With Me' later this year while Parodius/strategy fans have ParoWars to look forward to. ParoWars does for the strategy genre what Parodius did for shooters; it brings a humorous but thoroughly playable game to a field dominated by 'serious' games like Ogre Battle.
