Speed Racer Go Go Go

Speed Racer is one of those square cartoon characters from the 70s who had a cool ride and some chummy sidekicks. Chim Chim was his pet monkey and he always got into some sort of trouble or would help old Speed Racer out from time to time. Then there was the pretty girlfriend who was always cheery...though most guys will know that this is nigh impossible. Speed Racer cartoons had that dreamy look about them which lead me to believe that perhaps the artists were high when they were coloring the cels. There were some stark looking panels with weird color combos in those cartoons. This is also the case with some other cartoons from the 70s. They have this ethereal look about them which make me feel like I'm looking at them through a haze or something. The Sony Playstation game is a decent racing simulation with good graphics and a storyline to go along with the action. There is a heavy introduction with anime footage from the cartoon series. The racing doesn't reach the level of the high calibre racing games that are available on the market today but it plays well and is of good quality. You and Speed Racer can drive through a variety of different scenes, ranging from desert highways to jungle paths. Its kind of unbelievable that Speed would take his car into the jungle and risk damaging his transmission but I've seen him do this in the cartoons so it must be okay right? The addition of the Speed Racer characters helps to make this one more than just another average racing game that would get passed up in this crowded software market. It might get passed up anyway since I am not too sure if there are any Speed Racer fans out there anymore. Kids are probably still into Barney.
