Sony Playstation Time Commando
Time Commando is a good looking game with nicely rendered graphics and brilliant backdrops that make the game very impressive to look at. I was familiar with Time Commando from before because it was originally a PC game that enjoyed moderate success. The story in the beginning introduction paints a contrived story of a computer virus that has run rampant and of course, you're the man to stop it from ruining everything that is good and decent in this world. The game is a 3-D adventure where you walk around and look for clues and perform tasks in your quest to stop the evil virus. The animation in the game is not that great but it portrays the action well enough. The character movements suffer from gaps in the frames of animation where it seems like the character is shuddering slightly when he moves. It is not attractive to look at and is not really a major point but it bothered me enough to give me a negative overall feeling towards the game. The game also features a lot of fighting scenes where you fight enemy characters in real time with punches, kicks and slashes of your sword if you have one. More weapons can be picked up later in the game so that you can wipe your enemies out faster and from greater distances ( with lasers). The fighting in this game reminded me a bit of Prince of Persia where you fully control the character and have basic moves to attack and defend. While PoP was played in 2-D, the fighting in TC seemed like a 3-D extension of that fighting style. You can move slightly during battles and attack the enemy characters but all the enemies have patterns that can be deciphered and thus soundly beaten. Time Commando has sold very well and it was surprising to me that it has done so good, but it is a fairly good game if you enjoy action/adventure games. If possible, rent before you buy this one to try it yourself so that you don't commit your hard earned wages to something that you will play half-heartedly.
