The title seems to be very obvious in that there will be a Tobal No. 2 in the future. Tobal is a very good 3-D polygon fighting game that plays very smoothly and ranks up there with some of the top releases on the Playstation this year. An added bonus of the Tobal set is a Square preview disc that includes a playable preview of the stunning Final Fantasy VII game. The preview disc also contains a look at Final Fantasy Tactics which seems like an Ogre Battle clone. The other two previews are Saga Frontier, an RPG and Bushido Blade which is another fighting game. Tobal also offers a quest mode where you go through a dungeon and fight with a bunch of monsters. This is a pretty cool innovation in that exploration and 3-D fighting are combined together for a new style of gameplay. Loaves of bread are spread out trough the dungeon which help to regenerate your health points if you should get beat up a bit. This adds to the adventure aspect of the game. Tobal is a fine fighting release from Square that marks their departure from producing role playing games only. Their next fighting game will be the aforementioned Bushido Blade which is a realistic samurai fighting game where the players fight it out across vast open spaces instead of being confined in a fighting ring. Fitting that a company reknowned for their role playing game prowess helps to expand the fighting game genre by giving us games that play like rpgs.
