I have never
enjoyed soccer. I don't watch it on television when its on (is it
on?) and I don't play the games. However, I know that all of
Europe, South America and Asia can't be wrong. Blood feuds have
spilled out of soccer matches and differing loyalties have led to
devastating casualties. Its a passion but a passion that I
cannot, will not share. When a soccer game comes out for any
console, we order them because we have a good sized customer base
in the USA and Europe who will purchase it. In the early days of
NCS, I would sometimes speak to a German customer about soccer
and why it was so great. He likened it to a sport of wills, a
sport that likened itself to the storming of a stronghold with a
lone defender and soldiers on the battlefield rallying to attack
and defend. To the victor, the spoils of war. In this case, one
step closer to the World Cup. To the defeated, wrenching
humilation and disdain. In some instances, threats of death to
the players. Basically, a primal drama that is played out on the
fields of modern society. I accepted his reasoning...but I still
don't like soccer.
